West Coast keen on pre-season success
West Coast defender Shannon Hurn believes the club's pre-season success will play an important role in erasing memories of last year's horror AFL season.
The Eagles can book their place in next week's NAB Cup grand final with victory over Collingwood in Perth on Saturday night.
Hurn predicted West Coast would name a strong team and said the pre-season wins over Fremantle, Hawthorn and Gold Coast had gone some way to erasing the painful memories of last year's failed season.
The club received its first ever wooden spoon after winning just four games in 2010.
"It is another game (on Saturday against Collingwood) but it's something we certainly want to win and pit ourselves against one of the best sides in the competition," Hurn said.
"It will still mean a fair bit (if we win the pre-season premiership) because you get a cup.
"It is all about the (main) season but at the same time, from where we've been, we think it will be a good step forward for us.
"We will probably field a very strong side because winning form is good form.
"We've probably got one of the healthiest lists that we've had for a long time."
Collingwood premiership players Darren Jolly, Alan Didak and Tyson Goldsack are in line to play their first matches for the year against West Coast, while Brad Dick could return from a shoulder injury.
Eagles midfielder Daniel Kerr is expected to be held back for another week as he continues to recover from a serious hamstring injury.
Hurn said the Eagles were fitter this year and hoped extra skill work over the summer would pay off during the season proper.
"We've done probably twice as much training as we did last year, pure training on the track, so we think that's held us in good stead," he said.
"All our players are fit, there's a good vibe about it.
"We've just done more training on the track ... more actual match simulation work."
