Morris extends stay in Bulldogs kennel
Canterbury have re-signed Test centre Josh Morris to a three-year deal, ending speculation linking him with a return to NRL premiers St George Illawarra.
Morris will remain at Bulldogs through to the end of the 2014 season, the 24-year-old showing loyalty to the club which nurtured him into a NSW and Australian representative.
His re-signing closes the door on a possible return to the Dragons - with whom he played 46 games in 2007-08 - with the joint-venture believed to have been keen to reunite him with twin brother Brett in 2012.
"I'm very happy to be staying with the Bulldogs long term," Morris said in a statement released by the club.
"Obviously given my history there's been plenty of talk about what I would do once my current contract was up.
"Now I've made my decision I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into making this season a successful one for the Bulldogs."
Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore was delighted with the retention of Morris - who has scored an incredible 36 tries in just 44 games for the blue and whites.
"He's a world class player in his own right and his try scoring record at the Bulldogs speaks for itself," Moore said.
"He would be up there with the best centres in the game right now."
Morris' re-signing was part of a double dose of good news for the club with winger Steve Turner also adding a year to his stay at the club.
Turner - who arrived at the Bulldogs from Melbourne at the start of last season to replace retired pointscoring whiz Hazem El Masri - will now remain at the club until the end of the 2012 season.
Morris and Turner will have their first hit-outs for 2011 when they line up against the Dragons in Friday night's trial at WIN Stadium.
For Morris, the match gives him an early chance to stake his claim for a return to the NSW Origin side as he goes up against two of his main rivals for a sky blue jumper in St George Illawarra pair Mark Gasnier and Matt Cooper.
