Dragons extend Nightingale's stay

St George Illawarra have continued their long-term retention of last year's premiership-winning outfit with Jason Nightingale re-signing with the club through to the end of the 2015 NRL season.

Nightingale agreed to a new four-year deal with the club on Wednesday, with the New Zealand Test winger admitting he never seriously entertained offers from rival clubs despite interest from the Warriors.

His retention shores up the Dragons' right edge for the foreseeable future, with centre Mark Gasniers' contract not running out until the end of 2014.

The premiers have also locked up the likes of Brett Morris, Jamie Soward and skipper Ben Hornby over the last 12 months to long-term deals, while veteran centre Matt Cooper is already in talks about extending his stay beyond this season.

"It's good timing going into the season, I'm very happy with it to be here for another four years, it's something that I'm really looking forward to," Nightingale said.

"I've been in negotiations for a couple of months now, there wasn't really too much though of going elsewhere, it was just a matter of fixing up the deal here."

The one final piece of the Dragons backline not locked down is fullback Darius Boyd, though his situation seems dependent on where master coach Wayne Bennett ends up next year.
