Drink-driving Crows star to be penalised
Adelaide will decide within the next month how to penalise young AFL player Tony Armstrong for drink-driving while more than four times over the legal alcohol limit.
Armstrong, 20, was stopped by police in the early hours of Thursday, after drinking with friends at a private party on Wednesday night.
He recorded a .213 blood alcohol count, more than four times the .05 limit.
Armstrong was stripped of his licence for a year and his car has been impounded for a week.
While police advised the Crows that Armstrong was cooperative and remorseful, Adelaide football manager Phil Harper said they were "bitterly disappointed" both at his behaviour and his failure to inform club officials.
"The club is just grateful that Tony did not injure or kill himself and also that no-one else was injured or killed as a result of his decision to drink and drive," Harper said in a statement.
"The only positive was that he was caught so the club can now work with Tony to help him to understand the right choice in case he is ever faced with a similar situation in the future.
"The club has also advised Tony that his decision not to inform the club about the incident is very poor behaviour and will be taken into consideration in determining a club-imposed penalty."
A decision on what sanction the club will impose is not expected for several weeks, with players currently on their post-season break.
Harper said the leadership group and Crows' behaviour committee would decide a penalty within the next month.
