Anasta, Priddis miss train-on squad
A Greek holiday may have to be postponed by Braith Anasta despite the NSW Origin pivot being a shock omission from the Kangaroos train-on squad.
Anasta and Test hooker Luke Priddis were the big names missing from the initial 15-man squad featuring players from NRL teams which did not qualify for the finals.
But the pair are expected to be thrown a lifeline with selection in the Prime Minister's XIII team named on Tuesday.
ARL chief executive Geoff Carr said players from the PM's XIII playing PNG on September 18 would also be considered for Tri Nation squad selection.
"The final Tri Nations squad of 23 is pretty tight but ...they (national selectors) feel another game for some fringe players would be to their advantage," he said.
Players will continue to be added to the train-on squad as NRL teams drop out of the finals before it is cut to 23 after the October 2 grand final.
Anasta told AAP last week that he didn't expect to earn Tri Nations selection after his NRL team - defending premiers the Bulldogs - missed out on the finals.
And Anasta's manager Greg Willett said his star charge was so convinced he would miss out that he had booked a Greek holiday.
"He (Anasta) said to me no matter how good he plays he's not going to get it (Tri Nations selection) - it's just the way it goes," he said.
"He's going to Greece on holiday. I think he should just get away from football."
