Chad on last chance, says Port coach
Port Adelaide veteran Chad Cornes has been given one last chance to revive his flagging AFL season, Power coach Mark Williams says.
Cornes was on the verge of being dropped from Port's side to host Sydney on Saturday night, but was saved by his historical stellar contributions.
The 30-year-old gathered just four disposals as Port fell to Hawthorn last weekend, the worst output in his 227 game career.
"The fact is last week was probably his worst game for the club ever," Williams said on Friday.
"We sat and talked about, he knows it, and he's appreciative of the fact that he has got another chance to play this week.
"With all the credits Chad has earned over the years, he has certainly earned one more game, that is for sure."
Williams was adamant Cornes, an All Australian in 2004 and 2007, was not at the end of his AFL career.
"No, everyone is entitled to lose some form at some stage and he's had a wonderful career and he's been up for a long time," Williams said.
Cornes is set for a defensive posting on Saturday night at AAMI Stadium, and a likely duel with Sydney linchpin Adam Goodes.
The 11th placed Power have already made a change to their announced team, with novice forward Daniel Stewart (ankle) replaced by rookie ruckman Matthew Lobbe.
The seventh placed Swans, who have beaten Port in their past five encounters, have recalled running half-back Tadhg Kennelly and Hawthorn recruit Ben McGlynn.
Kennelly strained a medial ligament in a knee against Fremantle in round nine and was initially forecast to miss between four and six weeks.
"I'm lucky in a way that I have always been able to heal quickly," Kennelly said on Friday.
"I could have nearly played last week but went a bit more to the conservative side, to be sure that everything was perfect.
"We took the conservative approach, which was smart looking back, and it feels fantastic this week."
