Port's senior players must step up: Lade
Port Adelaide's senior players have put themselves on notice to perform or face the axe, ruckman Brendan Lade says.
Lade, a member of the AFL club's leadership group, says younger players can't be blamed for a topsy-survey season in which the Power has failed to win consecutive games.
The 10th placed Power host lowly Fremantle on Saturday night, but will be without pivotal playmakers including Chad Cornes (knee) and Shaun Burgoyne (knee).
Livewire forward Daniel Motlop (ankle) also missed training on Wednesday.
"With Chad out now as well, it leaves a big hole because he's one of our inspirational leaders," Lade said on Wednesday.
"Shaun's not playing and Motts didn't play last week, so we've got three or four leaders out and the other ones aren't playing that well at the moment.
"Everyone says the young guys are inconsistent, but it's definitely up to the older guys to lead and show the younger guys how to play.
"Hopefully, we get that soon because there will be changes if we don't."
Lade said Port coach Mark Williams, whose contract expires at season's end, was being let down by his players.
"The players are feeling the heat only because the coaches are doing absolutely everything and we're not performing and fulfilling our duties out on the field," he said.
The veteran ruckman said he would prefer Williams' tenure be decided sooner than later.
"It would be (easier), but the club has got a process in place," he said.
"They're going through the pros and cons of keeping Choco (Williams) or getting another coach and that will take care of itself in due time.
"They're doing everything they can. I go to a lot of the meetings with the coaches and everything they're doing is above and beyond what I think they need to be doing.
"They basically give us players a lot of stuff on a plate and it's up to us players to perform now."
