It's all about love for Port: Cornes
Port Adelaide's resurgence can be attributed to an enhanced love factor around the AFL club, veteran Chad Cornes says.
The Power have won five of their seven games to be equal second on the ladder in a flying start which Cornes says has come about from renewed care for teammates.
Cornes says the current spirit at Alberton is rekindling memories of 2007, when a youthful Power lost the grand final to Geelong. Port have not made the finals since.
"Very similar to '07, I reckon, the feeling around the place at the moment," Cornes said on Thursday.
"We went into that year with no one expecting anything with a really young, exciting group, it sort of feels the same now.
"I am not saying we are going to end up playing in a grand final or anything, but right now it just reminds me of where we were in '07."
Cornes said Power players have made a concerted effort to increase their love and care for teammates.
"A big focus going into this preseason was just getting the care factor up around the club, and just starting to care, get around each other a bit more and create a real positive feeling around the club," he said.
"The three captains (Dom Cassisi, Dean Brogan, Jacob Surjan) have really driven that and everyone else has followed, so they have been outstanding.
"When we can get away from the club and do stuff away from footy, have a bit of fun with each other and keep that feeling going."
Port enters Sunday's home match against a similarly rising Carlton on a three game winning streak.
"It's a really good start, looking at the draw, the first part of the year was really tough, certainly I don't know if I expected to be five-two (wins-losses)," Cornes said.
"But we were really positive going into this year with the preseason we had... there was just a positive, energetic feeling around the club."
