Port's Motlop added to Dream Team squad
Daniel Motlop's seven goals against Essendon at Telstra Dome has earned him a call-up for the AFL Hall of Fame tribute match.
The Port Adelaide forward was added to the Dream Team squad after he had the Essendon defence spellbound in the 64-point win over the Bombers.
It was the most goals Motlop has kicked in a game and he won high praise from Port and Dream Team coach Mark Williams.
"He just continues to astound with some of the things he does, some of the things that bring people to the football," Williams said.
"Everyone underestimates what he does for our club, he's a brilliant team player and certainly tries hard for the rest of the guys.
"Any goal he scores is just a bonus for all the other stuff he does ... I don't like to put too many reins on Daniel, he's brilliant.
"I really enjoy watching him ... you can wrap up all the fancy stuff he does, (but) the competitive chasing and tackling and will to win that he displays ... it's just outstanding."
While Williams lavished praise on Motlop, the player himself confessed he was told to curb his goalkicking at three-quarter time.
Motlop had kicked his seven by the final change and it was no accident that he failed to add to the tally.
"I got told to quieten down and start passing off a little bit," he said with a grin, referring to his team-mates.
While obviously delighted with his game, Motlop said Port's midfielders deserved the credit for their superb delivery of the ball into attack.
"It was good for the midfielders, they got a lot of ball and got it in quickly to us," he said.
