Covell charged by NRL judiciary
Adding insult to his season-ending injury, Cronulla winger Luke Covell has been charged by the NRL judiciary with a grade one tripping offence.
Covell was carried from the field in the 32nd minute during the Sharks 11-0 win over the Eels on Saturday with a suspected anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee.
He will undergo scans on Tuesday and X-rays on Wednesday to determine the damage, but a knee reconstruction is the most likely outcome, ruling him out for the season.
The 28-year-old was cited by the judiciary for tripping in the 11th minute.
The charge carries a maximum 75 points but due to Covell's clean record, a guilty plea will not result in a suspension.
Covell is the only player so far in round four to be charged by the judiciary with two games to be played on Monday.
