Knights sweat on NRL sponsorship deals
Newcastle's major sponsorship deals with NIB and McDonalds are hanging in the balance after the NRL club's chief executive Steve Burraston met with both on Monday.
Burraston met with the Knights' backers to discuss the off-field dramas which have engulfed the club following the charging of a second player, Chris Houston, with drug dealing last week.
Houston joined former team-mate and housemate Danny Wicks in facing charges of supplying drugs.
Both players voluntarily terminated their contracts with the Knights following the charges.
"Both meetings held today were constructive and offered an opportunity for our sponsors to discuss a number of concerns," Burraston said in a statement.
"Our meeting with NIB was positive and we will now provide further information to assist with their internal discussions and the ongoing relationship between the two organisations.
The Newcastle Herald reported on Monday the McDonalds deal was worth $200,000.
"The meeting with McDonalds was also fruitful and they are now considering the information we presented today," Burraston said.
"I'm pleased and thankful both sponsors gave us the opportunity to brief them today."
