Newcastle are offering drastically-reduced ticket prices in a bid to boost their home crowds, despite boasting the third-highest average attendances in the NRL.

The Knights announced Monday they would offer 30 per cent off pre-purchased tickets for fans willing to commit to attending their final three or four home games.

Knights officials have been concerned about crowds at EnergyAustralia Stadium this season, despite them averaging 19,020 a game.

It is the third-highest average attendance in the NRL this year - behind only Brisbane and Gold Coast - and the second-highest average crowd the club has had this decade.

But Newcastle chief executive Steve Burraston said last week the club may have to look into moving fixtures away from the steel city if crowds didn't improve.

With rising interest rates and petrol prices affecting food and drink takings at matches, Burraston believes the Knights will need to attract crowds closer to the stadium's capacity of 26,000 to avoid "major financial troubles" in the coming years.

"The last thing we want is to get a couple of years down the track and be forced to make drastic changes because we didn't give our fans the chance to turn things around and save our club," Burraston said.

"I need to stress the Newcastle Knights are a not-for-profit organisation so everything we do is based around covering cost.

"Anything above cost is injected back into the match day experience, the team and development.

"I believe the Newcastle people will rally behind us and finish the season on a high.

"Our goal is to see more than 20,000 Newcastle supporters at our final remaining games beginning this Saturday night against the Dragons."

The Knights play South Sydney, Parramatta, North Queensland and Melbourne in their last four home games.

The 30 per cent discount applies to packages of tickets to either the last three or four matches and are sold only from the Knight's Kingdom supporter store.

Burraston said the discounted ticket prices were being offered as a result of listening to supporter feedback.

"I've listened to the feedback we've received over the last week and this is the result," Burraston said.

"Families are telling us they are feeling the pinch financially so we're doing something about it."

Tickets to Knights matches usually cost $25 for adults and $10 for children.
