Ryan Cross ruled out of Force team

The Western Force's Super 14 injury curse has struck again, with Wallabies centre Ryan Cross the latest player to join the club's bulging list of walking wounded.

Cross will miss Saturday's clash with the Hurricanes in Wellington with a shoulder injury, joining winger Cameron Shepherd (thigh, six weeks), former Springbok Andre Pretorius (hamstring, season), flanker David Pocock (finger, 6-9 weeks) and No.8 Richard Brown (shoulder, six weeks) on the sidelines.

The glut of injuries has forced coach John Mitchell to name two debutants to tackle the Hurricanes, with 21-year-old flanker Ben McCalman and 21-year-old outside centre Mitch Inman named in the run-on side.

Sam Harris has been retained at five-eighth despite his nightmare showing against the Brumbies last Friday night, with James O'Connor to remain at fullback.

Tom Hockings has been called into the XV to partner Nathan Sharpe in the second row with Sam Wykes shifted to No.8 and Matt Hodgson to No.7.

In the front row, former Hurricanes prop Tim Fairbrother has been given a start at tighthead against the club he played for 58 times, with Matt Dunning shifting to loosehead.

"It's been a bit tricky on the whiteboard the last few days looking at situations but we have a plan and will be committed to it," Mitchell said.

"We'll give it a good shake.

"The disappointing thing from the Brumbies match was that we didn't get through a lot of attack and didn't throw a lot at them.

"That's where we'd like to get a lot better this week.

"We were hugely impressed by the commitment and length of time that we stayed in the match to possibly have a chance to win considering the circumstances.

"We'd really like to have a real dig and throw a lot more at the Hurricanes in attack this weekend."
