Maguire plans tough pre-season for Wigan
Wigan Warriors' new Australian coach, Michael Maguire, has a demanding pre-season in store for the English Super League side.
The Warriors' first team squad reported for training on Monday with the former Melbourne assistant at the helm after last month's announcement that he had signed a three-year contract.
Their first competitive pre-season hit-out will be against fierce rivals St Helens on December 27.
Wigan will then face Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Leigh Centurions and Warrington Wolves in January.
"We have a tough pre-season training schedule planned but we are also looking forward to getting some game action," Maguire said.
"The match against St Helens will give me the opportunity to see the players in competitive action for the first time and will be a good physical test for the boys.
"During the course of our trial games I'll be able to try out some combinations and look at the whole squad so that we are fully prepared come the first weekend of the competition."
The Super League season starts in February, with fixtures to be revealed on Wednesday.
