Swallow named best in AFL for Kangaroos
North Melbourne midfielder Andrew Swallow has capped a breakout year in the AFL, winning his first Syd Barker Medal.
The 22-year-old polled highly in 21 of his 22 matches in 2009 and won the award by ten votes after averaging almost 19 possessions and seven tackles.
The West Australian saved his best for last with 33 disposals, eight marks, eight tackles and a goal in the round 21 win over St Kilda.
Defender Scott Thompson claimed second place with 477 votes while dual Syd Barker Medal winner Brady Rawlings finished third with 476.
