Fletcher hopeful for Eagles' farewell
West Coast coach John Worsfold will seek the opinion of several senior players before deciding whether to give premiership midfielder Chad Fletcher a farewell AFL match.
Fletcher has played just four games for the Eagles this season and hasn't featured in the senior side since round 14 despite his hot run of form in the WAFL.
The Eagles will make at least two changes to their side for Saturday's clash with Adelaide at AAMI Stadium after Mitch Brown (foot) and Chris Masten (knee) picked up injures last week.
But, with Worsfold keen to give young players such as Ryan Davis and Jamie McNamara another chance to prove their worth at AFL level before their contracts expire at the end of the season, Fletcher is facing an uphill battle to get a game.
"It's a tough call whether he plays or not because there's a fair bit of heat on," said Worsfold. "We had some great performances in the WAFL on the weekend from pretty much all the players.
"Ryan Davis has been in outstanding form in the last few weeks, Jamie McNamara is in very good form, Will Schofield, Brent Staker, those blokes.
"(Matt) Spangher and (Eric) Mackenzie are up and going.
"There's a lot riding on the next couple of games for a lot of players, and we have to weigh that up seriously.
"For the long term benefit for the club and those players I think they would definitely argue that it's in their best interests they get another opportunity to play," he said.
"A lot of them are coming out of contract so there's a lot at stake for some young players.
"I expect some feedback from the senior players today (Tuesday) regarding their thoughts on it and we'll weigh that up as well."
