Blues try to keep lid on finals hype
Carlton are trying hard to keep a lid on their excitement at being guaranteed an AFL finals spot for the first time in nearly a decade.
The Blues have won six of their past seven games, including Sunday's nine-goal win over Port Adelaide.
But defender Bret Thornton says the players are determined to shrug off the hype.
"It's very pleasing. That was our objective at the start of the year and it's really great for the club," Thornton said on Monday.
"But we've still got two more weeks. We've got Melbourne this week so they'll present a good challenge and we're just focusing on that.
The Blues are also an outside candidate for a top-four spot but Thornton says that won't be a consideration until it happens.
"We're not looking that far ahead. We're pleased to play finals for the first time in eight years but we've still got two more weeks of footy before that happens."
Carlton have steadily made their way up the ladder but Thornton says the Blues have really stepped up in the past fortnight.
"We probably weren't getting much credit for the (earlier) victories but we thought we were still playing pretty well," he said.
"But the last couple of weeks we've been really good and hopefully that can continue."
