Blues need to learn lesson: Judd
Carlton captain Chris Judd says he hopes the Blues have learnt their lesson about playing four-quarter football heading into Sunday's elimination final against the Swans at ANZ Stadium.
The Blues held a four-goal lead at three-quarter time in last year's elimination final against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba before getting run down in a heart-breaking seven-point loss.
Carlton have a proud history with 16 premierships but the Blues haven't won a final since 2001.
"It would be great for this group to win a final," said Judd, who captained West Coast to a premiership in 2006 against Sydney.
"It would be a great reward for our fans as well who in the last decade haven't had a lot of finals to go and watch.
"In finals you just can't afford to take your foot off the pedal, whether that is in the first quarter for 10 minutes or the last quarter for 20 minutes, like happened last year.
"That whole time, the group have to be concentrating and all pulling in the same direction.
"We got a lesson from last year but by the same token we also played some pretty good footy there for three quarters.
"Hopefully some of the players will take some confidence out of that."
Judd said the Blues were feeling refreshed despite having to play Fremantle in round 22 on Friday night in Perth, where Carlton lost by a goal.
Judd said catching the red-eye flight overnight had done the trick for the Blues.
"It's the best way to deal with it. Most players find it really difficult to sleep after games anyway," Judd said.
"You hop on a plane, you're home by 6.30 and then you can sleep. We obviously had nothing to do on Saturday so you might be able to sleep in until midday."
