Brisbane will not risk Lockyer
Brisbane will not gamble with the health of star playmaker Darren Lockyer who injured his hamstring during Sunday's 24-4 loss to St George Illawarra.
Lockyer was a worrying casualty, limping from the field midway through the second half after feeling his hamstring "twinge" when taking off on a 40 metre run.
Three weeks out from the finals Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett is not about to risk his most valuable player - especially with the Broncos guaranteed a finals spot.
"If we have to play without him we will," said Bennett when asked if Lockyer could miss next week's clash with Penrith.
"We're not in a situation where we have to try and make the eight, we're already in the eight.
"We just have to make sure we make some good decisions and if he's not right to play then he won't play.
Lockyer was uncertain what the full extent of his leg injury might be.
"It wasn't a snap, it was just a twinge," he said.
"It just tightened up on me. I haven't had this kind of injury before, so I don't really know what to expect."
Bennett was far from disappointed by the loss. In fact both he and Lockyer felt the performance had plenty of merit.
