Titans can build finals momentum: Rogers
Gold Coast veteran Mat Rogers believes it's one thing making the NRL finals, but another altogether entering the play-offs with momentum.
Sunday's 30-10 win over the Warriors keeps the Titans on track to finish in the top four, but Rogers is experienced enough to know that it's crucial to enter the finals on a roll and says his team can build on the win in Auckland.
"If all we ever do is talk about finals footy we'll get there and get our tails handed to us," said Rogers, who scored two tries and created another in the round 22 win.
"We definitely want to go there with momentum. We want to build on today's win, we've got some tough games coming up, we've got the Bunnies (South Sydney) next week down in Sydney and that will be hard.
"But we're excited about it, we're excited about the challenge and we want to play the good sides now and they're probably the form side in the comp at the moment."
The Titans were hurting after their surprise 34-18 home defeat to North Queensland last round and a loss to the Warriors could have put their season into a tailspin.
But Rogers paid tribute to coach John Cartwright for sorting out their problems.
"Every player who played, and even those who didn't, were disappointed after last week and it leaves a pretty dirty taste in your mouth when you put in an effort like that," he said.
"To John Cartwright's credit, he pinpointed a few things that we needed to address, we worked on it all week and we came out and did it.
"We had a few good sessions this week at training. There's really a lot of energy and enthusiasm amongst the team.
"So to take it from the training paddock and put it out here today made it all the more special, but personally to get a couple of tries was good."
Rogers, who brought up his 50th game for the Titans in the game, has played a huge part in setting in stone the culture of the new club and says he's looking to play plenty more games for them.
"I've had a ball at the Titans," he said. "It's a good club and it's been great to be a part of it.
"Hopefully I can finish off this year well and have another year."
