Titans need pre-finals momentum: Rogers
They're third on the NRL ladder and have finally made the finals after two near misses, but Mat Rogers says Gold Coast still haven't stamped their authority on the competition this year.
In fact Rogers says the team hasn't even discussed the fact that they've played their way into the finals.
"What's been talked about is getting our game right," he told reporters after a brisk training run on Tuesday.
"We don't want to limp into the finals and get bundled out in a week.
"We want to go there with some momentum and confidence.
"We've been pretty disappointing over the last month ... and it's basically attitude.
"At this time of the year you're not going to get any fitter or stronger, it's just about how you show up."
Rogers acknowledged the team has a golden opportunity over the next few weeks.
"We certainly haven't stamped any authority on this competition by any stretch," he said.
"St George and the Bulldogs are certainly the front runners, but Manly and Melbourne are coming up .. and the eighth placed team can win this competition.
"We want to go in there and give it a real shake."
Coach John Cartwright agrees the players don't see this as a successful season yet, even though they've made the finals.
"Our season is going to be shaped over the next four games," he said.
Cartwright said Friday night's match against South Sydney would be a real test, as he thinks the Bunnies are close to the form side of the competition.
"They went down to the Dogs but it was a dogfight and went right to the wire," he said.
"They beat Manly, they've had some massive wins over the Broncos and they're coming together very nicely at the stage of the year when you want to hit form, and they're one of the sides that have."
Prop Michael Henderson has been named to play after a bout of the flu.
Henderson will effectively come in as a direct replacement for fellow prop Aaron Cannings, who has been ruled out after dislocating his shoulder against the Warriors.
Rogers is going to be hungry for some ball at ANZ Stadium.
After two tries in the Titans' 30-10 win over the Warriors in New Zealand on Sunday he's on 99 tries and keen to make it 100.
"I'd love to score 100 tries in my career, it'd be a nice milestone to have."
