Saints end Leeds' perfect start
St Helens ended bitter rivals Leeds' perfect start to the Super League season on Friday as the champions slumped to a 26-18 defeat at Knowsley Road.
The result overshadowed Leeds centre Keith Senior's achievement in becoming only the second player to score tries in all 14 seasons of the Super League.
Saints' Matt Gidley went over for the game's opening try but Leeds struck back within five minutes through a try from Senior, his 170th in Super League.
Saints struck twice in a five-minute spell before half-time to regain control with tries from James Roby and Leon Pryce.
Leeds cut the deficit to six points in the 50th minute when Ryan Hall crossed and Kevin Sinfield converted.
But St Helens pulled away with further scores from Gary Wheeler and Gidley scoring before Senior add his second try in injury time.
Brent Sherwin's 77th-minute drop goal brought Hull's perfect start to an abrupt end as Castleford turned the form book upside down with a 19-18 win.
In Friday night's other game, teenagers Sam Tomkins and Shaun Ainscough scored two tries apiece as Wigan powered to a 38-12 win at Salford.
