Sharks appoint two female board members
Cronulla have appointed two women to their board of directors to help continue the rebranding of the embattled NRL club.
Sharks chairman Damian Irvine on Wednesday confirmed Denise Aldous and Jenny Reynolds had accepted invitations to join the club.
Reynolds is a ANZ Bank executive with over 27 years experience in the banking industry, while Aldous is a similarly experienced business leader with particular expertise in financial services, consulting services and international private sector development.
The club say the move is a continuation of their efforts to take the Sharks in a new and positive direction after a year littered with off-field controversies.
It should also help to restore the club's tattered reputation with the game's female fans after revelations surrounding former chief executive Tony Zappia.
Zappia was forced to resign in June after it was revealed he had asked former community liaison officer Jenny Hall if she wanted to spank him after an incident in August last year which left Hall with a black eye.
The club has also been rocked by several other incidents this year, including the sacking of halfback Brett Seymour and Reni Maitua receiving a two-year ban after testing positive for a banned substance.
Irvine says the appointment of Aldous and Reynolds was just one part of the club's commitment to changing its off-field culture.
"Since the May 28 AGM it has been very clear to the board that the atmosphere of change at our club must continue," Irvine said in a statement.
"In appointing Denise Aldous and Jenny Reynolds onto the board, we arrive at the culmination of a process that has taken eight weeks to complete.
"Our club has been very genuine in our efforts to modernise and re-structure our board."
Aldous and Reynolds will fill the vacancies on the club's board left by the departures of chairman Barry Pierce and long-time director Graham Gillard.

Now that a bastian male NRL club Cronulla Sharks has appointed 2 women to their board- what about the board of Cricket Australia appointing 2 women. I am a huge cricket fan but its a poor look with the game integrated and women not on boards.
