Miller weighs into Tigers board stoush

Richmond director of football Greg Miller has confirmed he will be forced to leave the AFL club if president Clinton Casey is not re-elected at the Tigers' board election later this month.

Despite being a paid employee of the club, Miller has agreed to stand as part of Casey's board ticket against the rival Big Four group, led by businessman Charles Macek and ex-board member Brendan Schwab.

Miller said he realised it would make his position at the club untenable if Macek was elected.

"I'd have to leave, there's no doubt about that," Miller told Channel Ten, when asked what his position would be if Casey was deposed.

Miller has been widely credited with bringing about positive change at Punt Road, despite a year in which the Tigers finished with the wooden spoon and a financial loss of more than $2 million.

He helped revitalise a tired list with promising young draft picks and is expected to take an even bigger role in player recruitment with recruiting manager Greg Beck departing the club a fortnight ago.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou appeared to also give a vote of confidence to Casey's embattled board.

He said the Tigers board had been working closely with the AFL, and had carried out a lot of work in recent months.

"They've obviously appointed a new coach, recruited well and we're pretty pleased with their business plan on which we have worked closely with them," Demetriou said.

On Tuesday, Big Four officially launched its push for the election on December 22, including expressions of support from club legends Francis Bourke, Dick Clay and Jim Jess.
