Canadians rout US, book World Cup spot
Canada have advanced to the 2011 Rugby World Cup with a 41-18 rout of the United States, winning a two-match qualifying series between the North American rivals.
The Americans won 12-6 on home soil last Saturday but the Canadians jumped ahead 24-0 at half-time in the rematch and went on to earn a split and take the 2011 berth at New Zealand by outscoring the US squad 47-30 in the series.
Canada advanced to a spot in Pool A at the 2011 Rugby World Cup with host New Zealand, France, Tonga and an Asian qualifier.
The Americans will play Uruguay in a two-game series to decide another World Cup berth.
The winner of that series will join Pool C alongside Australia, Ireland, Italy and another European side.
The US-Uruguay loser would fall into a four-team knockout tournament for the last 2011 berth, first facing an Asian side for the right to face a team from Africa or Europe in the last-chance qualifier.
