Good no longer enough for Origin: Hayne
NSW winger Jarryd Hayne says a good performance is simply not enough to beat Queensland's all-Australian backline.
One of the Blues' standouts in the Origin I loss to the Maroons, Hayne believes NSW need to take their game to a much higher level if they're to upset Queensland and level the series 1-all on Wednesday night.
"We did a good job (in game one) but you need to do a great job," said Hayne.
"We didn't do a great job against the Queensland team because the strikepower they have, like everyone's saying, it's probably the best backline ever seen and we've come across.
"We can't do a good job, we need to do a great job against them to shut them down."
NSW will ramp up their preparations for the game when the players return to camp in Sydney on Monday, with most interest on the fitness of utility Craig Wing and five-eighth Trent Barrett.
Wing still has a query over his hamstring strain, while Barrett's niggling back complaint is another unwanted distraction for the Blues.
Both players will have to complete a training session on Monday at ANZ Stadium or be ruled out of Origin II.
It is a far from ideal situation for the Blues as they head into the must-win encounter, down 1-0 in the series and facing a record fourth straight series defeat.
Hayne says the prospect of losing four successive Origin titles is weighing on their minds.
"A little bit. It hurts the players more than anything and you don't want to be a part of that," said Hayne.
"It's going to be, not the main focus, but it's always going to be in the back of your mind."
Hayne says the Blues have learnt plenty of lessons from the 28-18 defeat three weeks ago and is confident they'll be able to produce an 80 minute effort at the intensity of their second half fightback in Melbourne.
"I think that's the main confidence that we can take out of it, the drive that we had that night shows we can stick with them."
