St George Illawarra confirm Boyd signing
St George Illawarra have confirmed the signing of Brisbane utility back Darius Boyd from next NRL season.
Boyd will link up with Broncos coach Wayne Bennett at the Dragons next season after the player agreed to a three-year deal which will keep him at the club until the end of 2011.
The Queensland centre's signature continues a busy recruitment drive by the club, which has already signed Canberra's Neville Costigan and Michael Weyman, Melbourne's Jeremy Smith and Penrith veteran Luke Priddis for next year.
The signing of Boyd was one of the NRL's worst-kept secrets with the Dragons' media department mistakenly including his name in a press release detailing the signing of Costigan last week.
Boyd, 21, has played 68 games in the NRL after making his debut for the Broncos against North Queensland in the first round of the 2006 season.
The Mudgeeraba junior also made his debut for Maroons in this year's State of Origin series, scoring two tries on debut.
"To be joining the Dragons next year will be great for my career and to be playing for such a proud club with so much history and tradition is something to which I'm looking forward," Boyd said.
Dragons chief executive Peter Doust added: "Darius will join the Dragons at a very good stage of his career.
"He was good enough to play State of Origin this year and is a quality NRL player that we are excited about having at the Dragons."
