Ryles gets off, Slater, Scott face bans
St George Illawarra prop Jason Ryles escaped further sanction after being controversially sent off but teammate Beau Scott and Melbourne star Billy Slater face suspensions from Monday night's ill-tempered NRL match.
The match review committee on Monday took no action against Ryles, who was sent off for kicking in a scrum during his team's 26-0 loss to the Storm at Olympic Park.
Referee Gavin Badger's decision to eject Ryles in the 26th minute received widespread criticism as an over-reaction after Ryles responded to having his foot stood on.
Badger's name was notably absent when the list of referees for this weekend's round 20 matches was released on Tuesday.
Slater is set to pay the heaviest penalty for the wild brawl that erupted three minutes before Ryles was dismissed.
He received a grade two contrary conduct charge after swinging a flurry of punches and will be sidelined for two matches unless he successfully fights the charge.
Scott received a grade one contrary conduct charge which would see him miss one week.
Meanwhile South Sydney playmaker Luke Issac will miss this weekend's round after copping a one match ban for a dangerous throw in the loss to the Wests Tigers.
