Slater to fight six-match ban
Melbourne fullback Billy Slater will face the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night in a bid to have his six-week ban for kicking Wests Tigers prop John Skandalis in the head downgraded.
Slater pleaded guilty to the grade-five charge on Tuesday, but is hoping for a reduced grading which would keep his slim Queensland Origin hopes alive.
A six-week ban will rule the Storm custodian out of the opening Origin clash on May 24.
Canberra hooker Simon Woolford will also dispute the grading of his grade two high tackle charge which threatens to rub the Raiders rake out for two matches.
All seven other players charged by the match review committee took the early guilty plea on Tuesday, including Storm five-eighth Scott Hill for placing his hands on referee Jason Robinson at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.
He will miss only two matches after benefitting from the seven-year incident-free discount thanks to his clean judiciary record.
