Storm blows away Dragons
Melbourne pair Matt Orford and Billy Slater repeated their five-star performance from last weekend to spearhead a 46-12 victory against St George Illawarra at WIN Stadium.
Orford and Slater bagged five tries between them in the Storm's thrashing of Newcastle last Sunday and against a Dragons outfit under immense pressure following two heavy losses, were again superb.
The eight tries to two victory for the Storm will increase the pressure on Dragons coach Nathan Brown, whose team was expected to be top four material but now has a 0-2 record this year.
Slater led the way in the first half, scoring an eighth minute try and setting up another for centre Matt Wing as the Storm led 24-0 at halftime.
Queensland Origin winger Slater is well and truly back to his scintillating best following off-season groin surgery.
The try of the match came in the 34th minute when the ball went through nine sets of hands, including Slater's, before Orford crossed.
The Dragons' woes were compounded by the reporting of their hooker Michael Ennis in the 20th minute for a high shot on Ryan Hoffman which left the Storm back-rower feeling groggy and dazed.
St George Illawarra finally put points on the board in the 44th minute, skipper Ben Hornby setting up Dean Young for a try which Mathew Head converted to leave his team trailing 24-6.
The match was over as a contest when Smith went between two defenders to score under the posts, Orford converting for a 30-6 lead.
Tempers reached boiling point midway through the second half in two separate incidents.
