Inglis to strike back in Origin II
From the first moment Greg Inglis strutted into State of Origin camp at a swank Sunshine Coast resort two years ago you knew the kid had a touch of "The Fonz" about him.
He walked into a room bursting with superstars, flashed his big smile and diamond earrings and stole the show - in much the way Wendell Sailor does.
He had a cockiness rather then an arrogance and a confidence that was unmistakable and unshakeable even then.
One of those the then 19-year-old impressed was Mal Meninga, who was also making his Origin debut - as coach.
Meninga saw a young player born for big-time football, blessed with freakish skills to be successful at almost any sport.
And "GI" (Inglis) didn't disappoint, scoring two tries in his maiden Origin match.
Since then he's played two grand finals, winning one, back-to-back winning Origin and Test series for Australia - and he's still only 21.
It's why two weeks ago he was filthy on himself after classy centre Mark Gasnier waltzed past him for a try and left him grasping on another occasions during NSW's 18-10 first game win.
The pair were teammates for Australia earlier in the year in the Centenary Test against New Zealand when Inglis pulled off a freakish play in goal to hand Gasnier a memorable try .
Gasnier (hamstring) is not a certain starter but Inglis doesn't care either way.
"To be honest, I don't care who plays for them, if he (Gasnier) plays, he plays," said the Storm star, not hiding from the fact Gasnier showed him up in Origin I.
"I'm a bit dirty about it.
"Gasnier gave me a bit of a nightmare and it was one of my worst games but it's out of my head and I'm only thinking about game two."
"It would be a pity for someone of his ability to miss out on an Origin but I don't see it as a chance to get back at him although if the opportunity came alone, I'd love to."
Inglis said the Queensland side to a man was bitterly disappointed in their performances in Sydney.
"We were all dirty in the sheds. Everyone's heads were down (after the game) but now we're back in camp and we all know we've got to get this back to one all next Wednesday," he said.
"NSW came out and dominated us from the first whistle and we let things worry us during the game.
"We didn't stick with the things Mal wanted us to do.
"Origin is Origin. It's a horrible feeling when you lose by one point or 10 points, it hurts just as bad.
Inglis is over people saying he should be playing in a sky blue jumper because he was born in Bowraville (near Kempsey) in country NSW.
An Australian schoolboy, Inglis made his senior debut for Brisbane Norths in 2005 before bursting on the NRL scene with Melbourne.
"People just don't get," he said.
"I'm very proud to be from Kempsey but when Origin comes around the people just don't get it.
