Blues want to stay together: Ricketson
Experienced lock Luke Ricketson has revealed NSW players had made a pact to make a winning start on Wednesday night and force selectors to retain the same squad for the entire State of Origin series.
The Blues are also intent on avoiding what amounts to Mission: Impossible - winning the series after losing the opening game.
Ricketson, who has been involved in three series and seven matches for the Blues, said the players had already spoken about the importance of game one and their desire to keep the squad together for all three matches.
"Without a doubt, we probably did that on the first night," Ricketson said as the Blues touched down in Brisbane this afternoon.
"We got together as the forwards and the backs and spoke about how we would like to stay together for the rest of the trip.
"The only way we can do that is by winning and playing well.
"That's a bit of a goal for us."
NSW selectors have shown in the past they have little patience for players who lose the opening match.
Only two years ago the Blues made seven changes after losing Origin I, while two years before that they again reacted savagely to a series-opening loss.
Defeat on Wednesday would leave the Blues facing a near-impossible task to regain the Origin shield, with history showing the winner of the opening game invariably wins the series.
