Fittler fires as Roosters roll on
Sydney Roosters coach Ricky Stuart branded Brad Fittler the best leader he had been involved with after the former Test skipper led the premiers to a 27-20 win over Brisbane at Aussie Stadium on Friday night.
Fittler scored two tries - including what turned out to be the match-winner in the 45th minute - as the Roosters scored the only try of a tight second half to win their fifth National Rugby League game of the season.
Stuart, who played under the likes of Mal Meninga and Laurie Daley with Canberra and Australia, heaped praise on Fittler for his inspirational performance.
"He was outstanding," Stuart said.
"From my time over football I think Brad Fittler is the best leader I have been involved with.
"He's an inspiration, at training he's like another coach. He's just a great leader.
"I really think he's playing the best football of his career and I'm happy for him."
Fittler's performance prompted Brisbane players to predict the former NSW captain could make a return for the Blues in this year's State of Origin series.
But Fittler said there would be no reversal of his decision to quit representative football.
And Stuart probably wouldn't let him anyway.
