Doolan wins LPGA Tour season opener
Australia's Wendy Doolan opened the LPGA Tour season in style with victory in the $A1.34 million Welch's/Fry's Championship.
Doolan shot a closing five-under-par 65 to come from two shots down overnight and win by three strokes from American veteran Betsy King and third round leader Lorie Kane of Canada.
It was the 34-year-old Sydneysider's second LPGA Tour win, following her success at the 2001 LPGA Champions Classic, and she collected $US120,000 ($A201,308) to be the early money list leader.
She finished at 21-under-par, having shot earlier rounds of 65 62 67.
Doolan birdied three of the first four holes to leap into the lead early in the final round and was only briefly headed by Californian rookie Christina Kim who found the pace too hot.
King shot 65 to climb through the field, while Kane had to settle for her share of second after a rather mediocre closing round of 70.
