Aussie Doolan wins Evian Masters
Overturning form and all the forecasts, Australia's Wendy Doolan captured the 2.1 million euro ($A3.6 million) Evian Masters in Evian, France.
Doolan, 35, collected the biggest win and the biggest check of her professional career with a final round 7-under-par 65 to finish 18-under overall at 270 - one stroke clear of Annika Sorenstam.
World No.1 Sorenstam, who held a three-stroke lead, had a 15-metre eagle putt for eagle at the last to force the playoff but her ball stopped 15 centimetres from the hole, pin-high.
Sorenstam shot a 71 and finished runner-up at 271.
Mexico's Lorena Ochoa finished third a shot further back at 272 after a 68.
Evian Masters champion Doolan overturned the leaderboard with a birdie-eagle-birdie-eagle-birdie rush from the sixth hole, seven shots gained in five holes.
Doolan went from six strokes adrift of then tournament leader Sorenstam with 12 holes to play, to three strokes ahead with three holes to play.
For Doolan, in her ninth season on Tour, it was only her third LPGA title.
She collected a winner's check for $US375,000 ($A526,000).
Only in 2001, when the Australian accumulated winnings of $US405,103 ($A569,000), has she earned more in a season than she pocketed for her week's work in Evian.
