Miatke collects first swimming gold
Danni Miatke collected her first individual gold for the 2007 Victorian Swimming Championships in the 100m backstroke on Thursday night.
The 50m butterfly world champion touched the wall in a personal best time of 1:02.88 minutes to win gold ahead of Kelly Stubbins in 1:03.06.
In a busy program for Miatke on Thursday night, the 19-year-old also qualified fastest for the 100m freestyle and 50m fly.
In the absence of dual Olympian Matt Welsh, the men's 100m backstroke title went to 22-year-old Daniel Blackborrow in 57.20 seconds.
Blackborrow lead throughout the two-lap event with Ryan Nolan, 24, claiming silver in 58.29.
In the men's 100m breastroke, 18-year-old Sam Ashby held off a strong contest from 14-year-old Ryosuke Goto of Japan to win gold in 1:05.14 minutes.
Jason Cohen won the men's 100m butterfly in 54.17 seconds ahead of Nick Cordner in 55.40 seconds.
