Welsh smashes 100m backstroke record
Triple Olympic medallist Matt Welsh smashed his own Commonwealth record in the 100m backstroke at the Australian Short Course Swimming Championships.
Almost a decade after claiming his first short course title, the 30-year-old easily won the race in 50.71 seconds for his ninth consecutive 100m backstroke title, and 53rd national crown.
Olympic hopeful, 17-year-old Kylie Palmer, also crushed a Commonwealth record in the 800m freestyle and was just three seconds short of the world record.
