Kefu eyes fairytale finish in Qld rugby
Modern-day Wallabies great Toutai Kefu's midas touch is continuing as a coach as he aims to lead Sunshine Coast to a fairytale Queensland club premiership on Sunday.
In his debut coaching season after returning from six seasons in Japan, Kefu has taken the fledgling Stingrays from competition battlers to grand finalists.
Sunshine Coast, who won just six matches in their first three seasons after joining the competition in 2005, have defied more-fancied rivals throughout 2010 but will again start underdogs in the decider against minor premiers University at Ballymore.
Second last under another former Wallabies and Queensland Reds forward in Glenn Panoho last year, 1999 World Cup winner Kefu took over the coaching reins mid-season.
The Stingrays have also benefited from the services of former All Blacks winger Caleb Ralph.
Sunshine Coast will be boosted by the return of captain Gareth Clouston who missed their preliminary final win over Sunnybank due to suspension.
But Uni, who lost just one match all season, are fresh after a week off and have the wood over the Stingrays following 25-6 and 25-19 wins in the home and away season.
