Tigers dodge Bullets 111-102
The Melbourne Tigers atoned for last weekend's loss to Brisbane by beating the Bullets 111-102.
Melbourne led throughout the contest and were never threatened by the Bullets.
Six Tigers registered double figure points in a balanced attack.
With point guard Darryl McDonald leading the way with 18 points, Stephen Hoare and Dave Thomas each added 17 for the Tigers.
Dusty Rychart led the Bullets with 23 points and Edi Ere added 19.
The Tigers accuracy was the key to the win as they converted 65 per cent of their field goal attempts.
Melbourne led 34-30 at quarter time, extended their led to eight points at half time and were ahead 85-76 at three quarter time.
An early fourth quarter surge saw the Tigers extend their advantage to 16 points.
Brisbane got back within six points late in the quarter but the Tigers steadied to win by nine.
Melbourne coach Al Westover felt his team was ready for whatever Brisbane threw at them.
"We were definitely more prepared for their pressure especially early in the game," Westover said.
"Our defence was solid, we shot the ball a lot better and took better care of the ball."
Brisbane coach Joey Wright felt the opening quarter set the tone for the game.
"We gave up too many points in the first quarter," Wright said.
"We had some opportunities later in the game, but our shots didn't fall."
Brisbane centre Mark Bradtke was benched for the entire final quarter after scoring 13 points and Wright did not elaborate on his reasons for the move.
The Tigers improved to 7-4 and Brisbane drops to 8-4.
