Tawqeet to be vetted on Cup morning
Melbourne Cup favourite Tawqeet will undergo a veterinary examination on Tuesday morning after throwing a scare into his camp when he pulled off a shoe.
Chief steward Des Gleeson said it did not appear Tawqeet had done any damage but Racing Victoria vets would visit him at David Hayes' stable to make sure.
"There was a bit of a hiccup when he threw a shoe off and took a little bit of hoof off but we understand it is not serious," Gleeson said.
"Our vets will take a look at him early tomorrow morning."
Hayes was oozing confidence on Monday afternoon that Tawqeet would give him his second Cup win at Flemington tomorrow following that of Jeune in 1994.
