Socceroos stars to miss training camp
The Socceroos' World Cup playoff preparations are in turmoil after star midfielder Tim Cahill and skipper Craig Moore were withdrawn from this week's training camp in Holland by their English clubs.
Everton has refused to release Cahill for the camp, saying the player needs rest.
And Newcastle United has informed Football Federation Australia that Moore still has a hamstring injury and will not link up with the Socceroos in Eindhoven for the camp or Sunday's friendly against Jamaica in London.
Under-pressure Everton, rooted to the bottom of the English Premier League, is believed to be willing to release Cahill 48 hours prior to the Jamaica friendly as per FIFA regulations.
FIFA rules state that clubs are not required to release players for training camps, but must allow them to take part in international matches.
It is believed Football Australia has been trying to get both clubs to reconsider their stance before the training camp starts in earnest late on Tuesday (Australian time).
The Socceroos are keen to have Moore in Holland to be with the squad and undergo medical treatment.
But neither Newcastle or Everton appears willing to bend.
Everton manager David Moyes said Cahill needed rest after struggling for touch this season following a hectic club and international schedule over the past 14 months.
"I think it would be beneficial for both Everton and Australia that Tim gets a break," Moyes told Everton's website.
