Woods closing in on Buick Open title
Tiger Woods has charged towards his 50th career title by taking a two-shot lead with nine holes to play at the Buick Open.
Fresh off his triumph at the British Open, Woods began the day with two-shot cushion and maintained his advantage with a front nine that included four birdies to get to 22-under at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club.
Jim Furyk was attempting to mount a charge on the world number one after going seven-under through 14 holes to sit two back but was unable to close the gap on golf's ultimate front-runner.
Woods, winner of the Buick Open in 2002, has captured 35 of 38 events when leading going into the final round.
Americans Vaughn Taylor and Scott Verplank also remained within striking distance of the world number sitting at 19 under with seven and nine holes to play respectively.
