Mactier wins 3000m pursuit gold
Australia's Katie Mactier has added Commonwealth gold to her Olympic silver and world title in the women's 3000m individual pursuit.
Australia took the gold and silver double, with Mactier repeating her world championships win over team mate Kate Bates.
With New Zealand's Olympic champion and world record holder Sarah Ulmer turning to the road this year, Mactier is head and shoulders above the rest of the Commonwealth in the event.
She proved that in setting a Games record of 3mins, 30.290secs to qualify fastest, more than four seconds ahead of Bates to claim Australia's seventh gold medal at the velodrome.
But with little recovery time between the heat and final, the 30-year-old Victorian clocked 3:35.196 in the gold medal race to beat Bates by nearly two seconds.
Bates's silver adds to the gold she won in the points race on Friday.
They received their medals from Australian prime minister John Howard.
Their teammate Alexis Rhodes was ranked sixth after fading badly to record 3:44.614 in her heat against Scotland's Katrina Hair who came from 2.5 seconds down to win in 3:43.524.
England's Emma Jones won the bronze.
