Broncos get a win at Suncorp
Brisbane finally christened Suncorp Stadium with a win in a titanic National Rugby League struggle against the Sydney Roosters.
The Broncos, with a glut of second half possession, rebounded from an early 8-0 deficit to ensure they keep top spot with a 10-8 victory before just over 28,000 fans.
It was third time lucky for the revamped stadium which had witnessed Brisbane's first ever home loss to Newcastle and a State of Origin defeat to NSW since it reopened on June 1.
The Roosters led 8-4 at half-time in a tremendous struggle between two teams with 15 players backing up from Wednesday night's State of Origin clash between NSW and Queensland.
The defence of both sides given the tiredness of the combatants was outstanding and it was always going to take something special to break the second half deadlock.
Prop Shane Webcke set up the matchwinner with Queensland teammate Petero Civoniceva running hard and straight onto a Webcke pass to score under the posts in the 68th minute.
Michael De Vere's conversion put Brisbane ahead for the first time.
Brisbane's State of Origin aspirant Corey Parker was put on the report late in the game by referee Tim Mander for a high tackle on Roosters' halfback Brett Finch.
The Roosters suffered an early injury blow in the game when NSW second rower Craig Fitzgibbon limped off with what looked a serious knee or ankle injury.
