Lappin suffers punctured lung
Brisbane's Nigel Lappin has been diagnosed with a punctured lung after yesterday's AFL grand final and will remain in Melbourne for another couple of days to recuperate.
The potentially serious problem was a result of the fractured rib he played with in the 50-point win over Collingwood.
The midfielder celebrated with team-mates and complained of the lung condition for the first time early on Sunday morning.
"I was short of breath in bed and I felt a bit of what I thought was fluid on my chest," he said.
"I showed the doctor this morning and he thought it was a bit of air leaking out of the lung and I had some x-rays that confirmed that.
"It's nothing too serious, I just can't fly back to Brisbane for a few days.
"The boys have got the Mad Monday tomorrow - it's a crazy day and heaps of fun, so to miss out on that is a bit sad but that's the way it goes," he told Channel 10.
Lappin was not required to stay in hospital, but did not join his team-mates for this morning's family day at Brunswick St Oval.
Team-mate Shaun Hart caused the injury in last week's preliminary final with an accidental collision.
Lappin admitted after the game he also suffered lung bruising in the original injury and had coughed up blood during the week.
