Sydney's Maxfield hangs up the boots
Former Sydney Swans skipper Stuart Maxfield has announced his retirement from the AFL at the Sydney Swans best and fairest awards on Friday night.
Maxfield, who missed last week's grand final due to injury, made his debut at Richmond back in 1991 before moving north to the Swans for the beginning of the 1996 season.
Roos described Maxfield as one of the three greatest captains that the club has had in its history.
"I suppose it is with great sadness in a way, but with great pride that Stuart Maxfield has decided to retire from the club" Roos said.
Maxfield, 33, paid credit to both clubs.
"To the Richmond football club for giving my career a kick start and to the whole Sydney Swans organisation - it has been a fantastic journey over the whole time," he said.
