Power to stay with the Lions
Ending weeks of intense speculation, star Brisbane midfielder Luke Power decided on Tuesday his AFL future lies with the Lions.
Brisbane issued a statement late on Tuesday confirming Power had resisted the "go home" factor and will stay with the club, where he is a three-time premiership player.
"I've had to weigh up a club in which I've played in three premiership sides and love dearly against the opportunity to go back and settle in Melbourne," Power said.
"In the end it was only the support of my family that allowed me to keep playing football at the club I love," Power said.
Several clubs, including Essendon and Collingwood, were understood to have expressed strong interest in Power if he'd decided to return to his home state.
The next step will be for Power to re-sign with the club and the 25-year-old will secure a lucrative deal, surely of at least three years.
Power would have been the biggest name in trade week, which starts next Monday, if he had decided to return to Victoria.
"It wasn't a contract issue, it was whether he was going to take the opportunity to go back and try to re-establish himself in Melbourne," said his manager, Ron Joseph.
"He just decided Brisbane was his club, it was a very difficult decision, made with the support of his family.
"I am sure everything will follow its normal course from here.
