Demons off to Phi Phi to remember Troy
Trisha Broadbridge feels "proud" about this week's return to Phi Phi Island, despite the painful memories of last Boxing Day.
Trisha will be in a group of more than 40 from AFL club Melbourne who will visit the Thailand island, to further honour her husband and Demon defender Troy Broadbridge.
The group will help build the Broadbridge Education Centre on Phi Phi.
Troy and Trisha were honeymooning there when caught in the Boxing Day Tsunami - he was swept to his death and she somehow survived despite also being caught by the wave.
"I'm feeling very nervous about going over, but the fact that I'm going with a lot of my close friends and all the boys, I feel like I can go there safely and I'm really going to enjoy the experience with them," Trisha said.
"This time, I feel really proud to go back and to give something back to the people of Phi Phi Island because of the way they accepted me over there and made it feel like my second home."
Trisha said the building project had kept her busy as she grieves over her husband's death.
The club helped raise about $250,000 for the centre.
"Things go up and down all the time and especially at the end of the footy season, it's been really hard for me and things like going to the best-and-fairest tonight without Troy, it's (those) things I get pretty anxious about," she said.
"I always have to remind myself that I was very lucky to survive, I don't really know how I did survive travelling that far in the wave.
