Webb, Moimoi rubbed out of finals series
North Queensland prop Carl Webb and Parramatta backrower Fuifui Moimoi will miss the finals series after their seasons were brought to an abrupt end by the NRL judiciary.
Webb was suspended for six matches after unsuccessfully trying to downgrade his grade four striking charge following his punch to the head of Melbourne back-rower Ryan Hoffman on Saturday night in Townsville.
Webb claimed he was provoked into hitting Hoffman by a grapple tackle in the ruck which nearly choked him prior to the incident, but the NRL judiciary panel of Royce Ayliffe, Mal Cochrane and Darrell Williams disagreed.
They instead agreed with NRL prosecutor Peter Kite that a hefty suspension needed to be handed out for such incidents so as to act as a deterrent.
The Queensland Origin firebrand said he was devastated with the outcome of the case, but said he still believed the Cowboys could take out the crown.
"I'm obviously disappointed with the result, I got my message across and now I'll just cop it on the chin," Webb said.
"I thought we had a strong case, evidently we didn't, but I'll just have to serve my sentence now and look forward.
"If I could turn back the time I would but I can't and I have to face the consequences.
"(I'm) pretty devastated obviously. All I can say now is I wish the boys the best."
Cowboys coach Graham Murray said more had to be done to stamp out the grapple tackle from the game, but held back from making any direct accusations against the Storm.
