Port in crisis after big AFL loss
AFL premier Port Adelaide is in crisis, torn to shreds by wooden spooner Richmond at Telstra Dome to leave its premiership defence in tatters.
Trailing by 28 points midway through the second term, the Tigers staged a 14-goal turnaround in spearhead Matthew Richardson's 200th AFL match to thump Port 19.9 (123) to 9.13 (67).
Coach Mark Williams called the loss one of the most disappointing days in the Power's history.
"To start as well as we did and get that result, to lose by 10 goals, was embarrassing - certainly a lack of character, a lack of pride in the guernsey and each other," Williams said.
"We'll have to do something about it and the facts are that we haven't won for a while now.
"Mathematically, there's still opportunity to make the finals, but the way we played today, there's no way in the world."
Port now has one win and a draw from its six matches to be 14th on the ladder following Sunday's towelling by a Tigers side now surprisingly nestled inside the top eight.
Richmond has won as many games after round six 2005 as it did all last season.
Williams admitted the current Power is a far cry from the side which comprehensively outplayed Brisbane in the grand final last year.
"We're not the same team as we were last year - that's pretty obvious.
